REcube: REthink, REvive, REuse starts

1 December 2021

On 1 December 2021, REcube: REthink, REvive, REuse - Transmitting Knowledge for Sustainable Regeneration of the European Reinforced Concrete Heritage started.

REcube, funded by the ERASMUS+ programme, line KA220 - European Cooperation Partnerships for Higher Education, intends to convey and disseminate at European and international level a new sustainable approach to the conservation and reuse of modern reinforced concrete architecture, enhancing this significant European heritage.

Aimed at master's and master's degree students from the engineering and architecture courses of the partner universities, the REcube training programme aims to foster the development of a new mindset in the field of Modern Heritage Regeneration. The project, which will last 36 months, has been conceived and implemented by a wide-ranging European university partnership, of which the lead partner is the Politecnico di Milano with the Laboratorio Nervi of the Lecco Territorial Pole. The project team is also composed of: Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary), Delft University of Technology (The Netherlands), Hafencity Universität Hamburg (Germany), Middle East Technical University (Turkey), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (Italy), Université Libre de Bruxelles (Belgium), University of Minho (Portugal) and Università di Roma La Sapienza (Italy).

REcube also sees the participation of the Pier Luigi Nervi Project Foundation in Brussels, which for over 10 years has been committed to the study and dissemination of the work of the great Italian designer and builder, and ICOMOS Italia, the Italian chapter of the UNESCO advisory association whose mission is to promote the conservation, protection, use and valorisation of monuments, built complexes and sites.

The materials produced during the three-year partnership will be made available online on an open source platform, while the methodology proposed to the students will be codified in the REcube Guidelines, published at the end of the project.
